The institutions.

One umbrella for the public work: what gets made, what gets studied, what gets given away, and what gets built next. ThinkerBuilder Works is the umbrella institution for the public work of Ihsan Beezer. An institution in formation.

What it is

ThinkerBuilder Works is the organizing home for the public work of Ihsan Beezer. It is not a holding company and not a claim of operating divisions. It is a way to see the whole body of work in one place: the shows and books, the research, the public-good initiatives and the ventures that follow. IHSAN Advisory, Fortalen and Black Laptops are separate institutions, not arms of ThinkerBuilder Works.

The work inside it is described honestly. Most of what you will find here is in formation: projects being written, recorded, tested and built, published when they are ready.

The name

A works is a body of work, everything a thinker leaves behind. A works is also a place, like an ironworks or a waterworks, where things get built. ThinkerBuilder Works holds both.

Why "Works"

The name carries the whole idea in one word. An author's works are everything they made. A works, like Bell Works or an ironworks, is a place where raw material becomes something finished.

Thinker plus Builder: the institution exists for people who do both, and it is organized around what gets finished and left behind, not only what gets talked about.

The arms.

Four categories hold the work. Each arm is presented as it is: in formation, published when ready.

01

Media

In development

Everything made for an audience: shows, podcasts, books and film. The media work is presented through ThinkerBuilder Media, the editorial home for the institution's shows.

  • The Museum of Normal Things - a show in development
  • Disturb the Obvious - a short podcast in development
  • Books and essays
  • Film and documentary work

02

Research

In development

The study of how people and organizations make decisions: academic research, long-form writing and frameworks that come out of it. Research here informs the books, the advisory practice and the initiatives.

  • Decision research and doctoral work
  • Frameworks and long-form writing
03

Initiatives

Flagship in development

Public-good projects built to be useful at scale. The flagship initiative is The Self-Audit Project: free, repeatable online self-audits that help entrepreneurs, employees and parents examine their own decisions.

  • The Self-Audit Project, flagship initiative
  • The City of Questions - a public-good project in formation
04

Ventures

Forming

New builds that start inside the institution and stand on their own when they are ready. Ventures are announced when there is real activity and a reason to announce them.

  • Future ventures, announced when real
